Restoring files from database backup sets and recovering the database to the desired point in time requires quite a bit of time depending on the size of the database, the size of the files to be restored/recovered from backup media such as tapes, and the recovery period. They assist in recovery from database corruptions or loss of database files due to issues in storage systems.
